For the Love of Freedom is a documentary dedicated to bringing World War II to life for the younger generation.
During the last five years, Director Jeffrey Worthington has collected the stories of over thirty WWII veterans, along with holocaust survivors, in an effort to preserve their stories for future generations. The filmed interviews are now being used in a documentary targeted at today’s teenagers. Through extensive research, the documentary has taken clips from the most intense WWII battlefields and tastefully presents them for students.
Approximately 1000 of our nation’s WWII veterans pass away daily. When Mr. Worthington surveyed a group of high school students concerning their amount of interest in WWII, the typical responses were, “It’s just text on the page” or “It’s not personal”. In essence, it was not relevant to them because it was not real to them. For the Love of Freedom aspires to personalize the war, so that students may be able to fully appreciate the sacrifices that those brave young soldiers made.
These veterans fought for many things, fueled by their love of freedom and their passion for their country. Many of them sacrificed their lives to buy freedom for future generations. It is important that their work is never forgotten.
We are honored to present one of the most diverse casts for a World War II documentary. Members from the European front include an Army nurse serving on the front-line, POWs, a Japanese-American soldier, a conscientious objector, holocaust survivors, Resistance fighters, individuals living under the Nazi occupation in Holland, and a Mexican national seeking his US citizenship by serving in the US Army. The film further highlights Triple Ace, Tuskegee, and Scottish fighter pilots.
From the Pacific theater we showcase stories from the bugler at Pearl Harbor, a medic in the Bataan death march, and a Navajo Code Talker. Viewers will hear a Marine’s story of the fierce battle for Iwo Jima, how the Army Rangers rescued the prisoners of Camp Cabanatuan, and firsthand accounts of the firebombing raids over Tokyo.
